The idyllic market town Castelrotto is situated in the holiday region of the Sciliar in South Tyrol
The market town Castelrotto (German Kastelruth and Ladin Ciastel) counts approximately 6.500 residents and is extended over 11.000 ha in the South Tyrolean Valle Isarco, between Val Gardena and Val di Tires. The township consists of the principal place Castelrotto (1095 m) together with the eleven hamlets Siusi allo Sciliar, Alpe di Siusi, San Michele, Sant’Osvaldo, San Valentino, San Vigilio, Tagusa, Tisana, Bulla, Roncadizza and Oltretorrente. The municipality Castelrotto comprises an area with different levels, about 720 m in San Vigilio and 2.958 m on the Alpe di Siusi. This fraction, with its 5.400 ha, covers almost half of the municipal area. Also a part of the natural park Sciliar-Catinaccio belongs to Castelrotto.
